2009 CTBC TRADE MISSION & 7th ANNUAL JOINT CONFERENCE: “Diversifying out of the Crisis”
The Deputy Minister of International Trade, Mr. Louis Lévesque, led the largest ever Canadian trade mission to Turkey during a visit on May 11-12, 2009. Recruited jointly by the Canadian Embassy and the Canadian-Turkish Business Council (CTBC), the mission focused primarily on the key sectors of renewable energy, ICT, agriculture and mining. In total, the delegation numbered over fifty participants with representatives from thirty firms, three provinces (Ontario, Québec, Alberta) and three federal organizations (EDC, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, DFAIT). Program activities included networking events and one-on-one meetings in both Ankara and Istanbul, along with a major trade conference co-hosted by the CTBC and its Turkish counterpart in Istanbul on May 12. Following CTBC-related activities, seven companies remained behind to participate in the well-attended ICCI Clean Energy trade show in Istanbul from May 13-15, working out of a Canadian Booth that was co-sponsored by DFAIT and the Ontario Ministry of International Trade and Investment. The Commercial Section of the Canadian Embassy in Ankara, and the CTBC will continue to work closely with Canadian firms that participated on the trade mission to help further advance their business prospects in Turkey.
